Intern Corner - Journey to Consulting

My introduction to Source One was a brand new work setting that quickly became an environment I enjoyed being in and a workplace where I knew there were opportunities to thrive in. The Source One team was welcoming, and the work culture showed immediately through their genuine camaraderie and sense of humor.

As I had expected, my tasks at Source One were unique to internships and coursework I had completed in the past. However, I was eager to expand my skill set and gladly accepted this challenge. My new coworkers were happy to teach me their tips, and as an intern, I was dedicated to my purpose of learning.

What drew me to consulting was the diversity of projects and industries it serves, ensuring continuous exposure to different markets. Source One's clients range from agriculture and farming to pharmaceuticals. With having such diverse clients, analysts and consultants are exposed to various businesses and forced to be fast learners in order to gain market intelligence. However, despite changing contexts, the techniques and strategies applied are consistent. Like this nature of consulting and having exercised this skill at Source One, I hope to use these lessons learned in future work settings.

Coming from a STEM background, I had a blank slate which was quickly filled as I completed various projects. My goals targeted becoming incorporated with the management services team, and my mentors ensured a learning process following the standard operating procedures of procurement services. My workload included client data analysis to create baseline reports, market analysis to create benchmarking reports, conducting spend analyses, and identifying savings opportunities.

My internship with Source One has ensured my interest in the financial services sector and started a career path that I hope to continue following. I was able to gain confidence in my work and learn skills that the workforce calls for. As I prepare for my senior year and beyond, I am confident that Source One has led me in the right direction to achieve success.
