Texas hospital system reduces supply costs

Representatives from Methodist Health System in Dallas recently reported on the progress that has been made in cutting costs by reevaluating supply expenditures.

Methodist Health System, which often places at the top of the U.S. rankings in quality and clinical outcomes, achieved major savings with centralized purchasing operations, and it aims to further reduce its supply costs in the future, according to Healthcare Finance News.

Addressing a conference recently, Peggy Shewmaker, the health system's supply chain purchasing director, said that Methodist saved $7 million on 133 projects by conducting aggressive value analysis and applying system-wide metrics, HFN reported.

A strategy conducted by Methodist called "Hold the Gain" improved internal communication while providing greater accountability from vendors, the source stated.
