Chicago suburb welcomes pharmaceutical companyGlenview, Illinois, recently welcomed Japanese drugmaker Astellas Pharma, as the company opened its $150 million headquarters in the Chicago suburb.

The headquarters consists of two seven-story, glass-covered facilities that encompass more than 400,000 square feet, and include six video conference rooms and green energy features, The Associated Press reported.

According to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, the addition of the pharmaceutical company helps the state's future. The governor attended the formal opening of the company where hundreds of employees were present. Astellas Pharma has added 200 jobs since 2011 and an estimated 1,000 employees work at the new location, according to the AP.

The company is one of Japan's largest pharmaceutical companies, with only Takeda - Japan's largest drugmaker - surpassing it in size.

Astellas has numerous other North American locations, including a manufacturing facility in Oklahoma and research branches in California, New York and North Carolina.
