Ohio manufacturing benefiting from green technology Manufacturing in Ohio has suffered since the recession hit; the state was once a hub of auto manufacturing, but the collapse of the American auto industry left it with many jobs lost. Nonetheless, Ohio is quickly becoming a major hub of clean energy manufacturing.

Reuters reports that Ohio's manufacturing sector is growing and starting to report profits as firms use old skills to court green clients. The Midwest has quickly moved to become a hub of green manufacturing and Ohio is a major component in that shift, with green companies increasingly moving their manufacturing outfits to the state.

Cardinal Fastener & Specialty Co, for example, is a prime example of a green company boosting the state's manufacturing; the company added a wind industry line to its production of hot forged bolts, resulting in its profit doubling in less than four years - and increased manufacturing output in the state.

Cardinal chief executive John http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/04/idUS158084999020110304?pageNumber=2 Grabner said his company is a "poster child for how to grow a manufacturing company from what it used to be to what it needs to be." Manufacturing accounts for 18 percent of Ohio's economy and is quickly becoming a leading in green technology manufacturing.

  1. Ohio's unemployment has nearly doubled from 5.7 percent in January 2008. That is not a good start for Obama in a state with 20 electoral votes that could be vital for his re-election effort in 2012.
