The end of 2015 is nigh. It’s the time of reflection on the previous year, and planning for the year ahead. One item sure to be on most Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Organizations’ laundry list is their staffing plan. At the outset of 2015, as the Strategic Sourceror reported, the demand for qualified sourcing and procurement professionals is at an all-time high. That fact is largely unchanged as we head into 2016.

On that note, it’s time for the next installment in our Supply Management Recruiting Insider Podcast Series.  Continuing from Episode 1, we host MRA Global Sourcing's Managing Partner Naseem Malik to discuss the staffing marketplace for Procurement and Supply Management, covering such topics as:

  • What makes for the ideal candidate
  • What makes for the ideal position
  • Which spend categories (e.g., professional services) are likely to need placement help (and why)
  • How a disciplined recruiting process, overseen by industry insiders and veterans of the Procurement function, helps companies fill those vacant positions effectively

As Malik explains, “Candidates are looking for opportunities where they can make a difference, develop strategies and be rewarded and recognized as well.  Strong reputable leadership roles within a transformational environment are the most appealing opportunities.”  On the other hand, companies are looking for “change agents with the ability to work in a matrix environment, where they can collaborate and influence multiple stakeholders to go along with their technical know-how.”

As we head into 2016, we’ll keep our ears on the ground and see how the staffing marketplace shapes up.  Will companies continue to hire for the supply management function? How will the candidate marketplace look as baby boomers retire and millennials take their place? What impact will the US economy (e.g., wage increases vis a vis unemployment) have on the proliferation and growth of center-led Procurement? What does the Procurement Organization Staffing Model of the Future look like?

Head on over to the Source One Podcast network (or check iTunes and YouTube) to check out this latest installment from 2015, and stay tuned to those channels for future episodes of the Supply Management Recruiting Insider.
