Robert Bowman, of Supply Chain Brain, recently interviewed Steven Belli, CEO and William Dorn, Director of Operations, of Source One Management Services LLC. Specifically, Mr. Bowman put together a brief piece "Mexico to U.S. Manufacturers: Come Back, All Is Forgiven" in which he outlines some of the challenges U.S. businesses face when sourcing overseas and the desire for many businesses to move manufacturing back to North America, particularly in Mexico.
Unfortunately, Mexico poses its own sets of challenges that are not as prevalent in many Asian countries. Particularly, the perception of safety and the lack of easily identifiable suppliers. However, the Mexican Government is committed to becoming a global player and has recently invested in infrastructure and legislations that can benefit Mexican manufacturers. U.S. businesses need to learn how to gain access to these resources.
